Why we’d go

All-day breakfast until 3pm, own-farm produce, a cookery school on-site, the best reason to base a Flinders visit around lunch rather than dinner.

Georgie Bass is the best all-day cafe in Flinders and one of the better ones on the Peninsula. The room is relaxed and the outdoor courtyard works in any weather, it is the kind of place you linger at without planning to.

The menu runs on regional produce from Mornington Park, the owners' own farm: proper egg dishes, seasonal vegetable preparations that respect what they are, sourdough that comes from people who understand bread. Coffee is Commonfolk. The all-day breakfast menu runs until 2:30pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends, which means the post-walk lunch sequence works cleanly, walk the cliff track to West Head, come back into the village, sit down without rushing.

The cookery school on-site is a Peninsula institution: pasta workshops, seasonal cooking classes, occasional guest chefs. Worth planning around if you are down for more than one night. Sister venue to the Flinders Hotel at the other end of Cook Street.
