Why we’d goA 20-seat room, a fixed menu, and a chef who placed fourteenth in the world at Bocuse d'Or, Moke is the most serious cooking in Flinders and it isn't close.
Moke is the most serious restaurant in Flinders. Chef Michael Cole, who represented Australia at Bocuse d'Or in 2019, placing fourteenth globally, runs a weekly-changing set menu from a compact room on Cook Street. Family-owned and operated, which gives the whole experience a quality that larger operations rarely manage: the chef comes out and talks to the room.
The cooking blends European precision with Asian-inflected flavour combinations. Flathead with chickpea butter and kaffir lime. Potato agnolotti with olive oil hollandaise. Pork two ways. A smoked almond and Bosc pear cake that finishes things cleanly. The menu changes weekly, sometimes daily, based on what the kitchen can source from the Peninsula.
Book well ahead, especially for Saturday lunch, which is the best pairing with a coastal walk day. Thursday and Friday are dinner only; Sunday is lunch only. Closed Monday to Wednesday.
Worth knowing
If you only do one thing
Book Saturday lunch and walk the cliff path to West Head in the morning, Moke is the kind of restaurant that rewards having earned it.
