Privacy Policy

Peninsula Insider is an independent editorial publication. This policy explains the information involved when you browse the site, create an account, save places, plan a trip, subscribe or contact us.

What we collect

Accounts and profiles

You can create an account with Google sign-in or an email magic link. Our authentication provider, Supabase, processes your email address, account identifier and sign-in information. Google sign-in requests your basic profile and email from Google; your account may show the name and image provided by Google. We do not ask you to set a password on Peninsula Insider.

Your account profile can hold a display name, optional bio, avatar URL and Insider Note preference. We use this information to show and manage your account. Signing in does not itself subscribe you to the newsletter.

Saved places and My Trip

Saved places, articles and events, trip itineraries and related planning settings are kept in your browser so these tools can work without an account. If you sign in, saved items and itineraries can also sync through Supabase so they are available on another device. A shared trip link may expose the trip details to anyone you give that link to.

The Insider Note

When you subscribe, we collect your email address and the signup source. The signup form sends these details to a Supabase subscription function for newsletter delivery through our email platform. You can unsubscribe through a link in an edition. We keep account creation and newsletter signup as separate choices.

Contact, corrections and business submissions

When you email us or use a contact, correction, story, event or business form, we receive the details you provide. These may include your name, contact details, business or venue details, message, supporting evidence and any files you attach. Form submissions are stored through Supabase; email enquiries are held in our inbox. We use them to respond, assess a submission, manage corrections and keep a record of what was reported. A submission does not add you to the newsletter.

If you submit a story, photograph or editorial contribution, you retain ownership of your content but allow us to review, store and potentially feature it in Peninsula Insider editorial coverage.

Analytics and search activity

With your analytics consent, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand site visits and interactions. You can change that choice through Cookie settings in the footer. Separately, our site search records result counts, selected filters and the page used in Supabase without relying on that analytics choice. Current search logging does not send the words you type. Search terms collected before 14 September 2026 may remain in older records while we review their retention.

Browser storage

The site uses browser storage for saved items, trip plans, your sign-in session, cookie and analytics choices, and interface preferences. Supabase stores the sign-in session in your browser to keep you signed in. Google Analytics may use cookies when you opt in. Clearing browser data may remove local saves and preferences that have not synced to an account.

Third-party services

The website is published through GitHub Pages and delivered through Cloudflare, which handles site requests, security and redirects. Supabase provides authentication, database and storage services for account and reader features and form submissions. Google provides optional sign-in and, with consent, Google Analytics 4. A third-party email platform processes newsletter subscriptions and editions. Fonts are served by Google Fonts, which may receive standard request information as described in Google's Fonts privacy FAQ.

These providers process information needed to provide their services. Links to venues, maps and other third-party sites take you to services with their own privacy practices.

Affiliate and referral links

Some Peninsula Insider pages may contain affiliate or referral links. Where this occurs, Peninsula Insider may earn a commission at no additional cost to the reader.

Retention and your choices

We have not set one retention period for all records. Account and synced planning information remains in Supabase unless it is deleted. Submissions and correspondence remain in our form records and inbox until removed. Provider logs and backups can have separate retention periods. We do not currently offer a self-service account deletion button.

You can edit your display name, bio and newsletter preference in Account, clear local saves in your browser, change analytics consent through Cookie settings, and unsubscribe from The Insider Note using the link in an email. To ask what personal information we hold, request a correction or account and data deletion, or raise a privacy concern, email hello@peninsulainsider.com.au. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request and will explain any information that cannot be removed.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where practical, mention material changes in The Insider Note.
