Why we’d goNot every cellar door visit needs to be a serious wine occasion. T'Gallant is where you go when the table is mixed, the afternoon is loose, and you want food that keeps up with the wine.
T'Gallant was planted by Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy in the late 1980s, among the first to establish Pinot Grigio as a serious variety on the Peninsula, at a time when the region was still finding its identity. The estate has since come under the Treasury Wine Estates umbrella, which means the operation runs at scale and consistency, but also means it's the most reliably open and family-ready cellar door on Main Ridge.
The Italian-inspired food menu and shaded outdoor area make it the right call when you have a group that includes non-wine-drinkers, children, or anyone who needs something to eat before they commit to another tasting. The kitchen produces straightforward, well-made food, pizza, shared plates, and the Prosecco poured by the glass is the natural entry point on a warm afternoon.
Come with realistic expectations and it will consistently meet them. Order the Prosecco and a margherita, claim a shaded table, and don't try to make it more than a good afternoon in wine country.
Worth knowing
If you only do one thing
Order the Prosecco by the glass and a pizza, claim a shaded outdoor table, and let the afternoon run.

Editor's verdict
T'Gallant's story is tangled but worth knowing: founded in 1990 as Australia's first serious Pinot Grigio operation, sold to Treasury Wine Estates, then sold again in 2022 to independent owners for AUD 9.7 million. The wines remain centred on Pinot Grigio and Gris - historical weight as Australian pioneers of the dual-style approach. And the Italian-inspired wood-fired food makes this the Peninsula's easiest drop-in for a weekday lunch.
Walk-ins welcome daily 10am–5pm. Bookings recommended on weekends. Guided 30-minute tasting of five wines, charged per person. Restaurant bookings via OpenTable. No dogs.
Italian-inspired winery dining with updated menu. Daily walk-in - the Peninsula's most relaxed food-and-wine proposition.
Cuisine: Italian-inspired.
