Why we’d go

The quieter, more Italian-feeling sibling of Foxeys Hangout, a few minutes away on a tumbling Main Ridge slope, bookings accepted Thursday to Sunday.

Morning Sun is Foxeys Hangout's other face, the quieter, more Italian-feeling sibling a few minutes away on a tumbling Main Ridge slope. Where Foxeys runs sunny and social, Morning Sun runs slower: an old farmhouse-style dining room, a garden that spills down the hill, and a lunch menu that leans into handmade pasta and simple grilled fish. It is one of the most underrated long lunches on the Peninsula.

The Pinot Gris is the bottle to take seriously here, crisper and more textural than the Peninsula's usual style, and a genuine complement to the kitchen's antipasti work. Bookings accepted Thursday to Sunday, which is a real advantage over Foxeys' walk-in-only policy next door. The valley view from the garden in autumn, when the slope turns copper and the fog sits low in the mornings, is one of the better Peninsula settings for a long lunch.

Choose Morning Sun when you want the cellar-door-restaurant experience without competing with a bigger crowd. Best in autumn.
