Why we’d goKerri Greens is the Peninsula's new-school face, the cellar door to recommend to friends who find the ridge estates a little too serious.
Kerri Greens is the Peninsula's new-school face. Tom McCarthy and Lucas Blanck launched the label a few years ago with a clear intent to make lighter, more immediate wines than the regional default, Pinot Noir that does not need to be cellared before it can be drunk, Chardonnay that leans into freshness rather than heft, and built a cellar door to match. The experience is closer to a good wine bar than a country estate: small plates, natural pours, a garden, and a team that explains the wine without any of the Peninsula's traditional formality.
This is the cellar door to recommend to friends who find the ridge wineries a little too serious. The wines are genuine, Tom worked at several of the Peninsula's top estates before launching Kerri Greens, and the approach is a reminder that Peninsula wine does not have to be cloistered to be good.
Open weekends. Book ahead for bigger groups. The single-vineyard Pinot Noir is the bottle to take home.
Worth knowing
If you only do one thing
Order the single-vineyard Pinot Noir and stay for a small plate, the wine-bar format works best when you let it run.
