Why we’d goElgee Park is where the modern Mornington Peninsula wine industry actually began, 1972, three years before anyone else had the nerve to try.
Elgee Park is where the modern Mornington Peninsula wine industry actually began. Baillie Baillieu planted vines here in 1972, three years before Main Ridge Estate, at a time when Victoria's cool-climate wine region had yet to exist as a concept. The estate is still in family hands, the plantings still trace the original blocks, and the wines, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a quietly exceptional Viognier, carry the kind of restraint only decades of the same family farming the same soil can produce.
The cellar door is low-key, rural, and unhurried. There is no restaurant, no sculpture walk, no attempt to turn the visit into a day-trip set piece. You taste, you talk, and you leave understanding a little more about how the Peninsula wine region actually came to be. The Viognier is a surprise, barely anyone on the Peninsula still plants the variety, and Elgee Park has been making good ones for thirty years.

Worth knowing
If you only do one thing
Ask about the Viognier, it is one of the oldest and most consistent examples of the variety on the Peninsula.
