Editorial approach

How the verdicts get made.

The standards behind every recommendation on Peninsula Insider: what earns a place, what gets a venue removed, and where the commercial line sits.

Methodology

The standards.

Four rules that govern every page on the site. They override deadlines, briefs, and partner asks.

Every pick earns its place

A venue appears on Peninsula Insider because it earns a place on the merits, from research and a formed view. Not because it submitted a form, ranks well, or bought a placement. When we do not have a considered view, we say nothing rather than pad the list.

Every verdict has a reason

We rank, we pick, and we say when something is overrated. A guide that treats every option as equally lovely isn't a guide. When a kitchen has an uneven season or a room doesn't justify its rate, the verdict says so, and it says why.

No prices, ever

Prices change weekly and we can't verify every one. A stale price erodes trust faster than a missing one, so dollar figures don't appear on the site. The operator's own page is where the current price lives; we tell you whether it's worth it.

The season is named

A verdict written in January can mislead in June. Recommendations carry their season, dispatches carry their weekend, and we retire calls that no longer hold rather than let them age in place.

Independence

Where the commercial line sits.

Labelled, always. Advertising, partner content, and Pass marketing are part of how the publication is funded. The firewall is enforced by labelling, not absence: partner venues carry a partner label, sponsored content is marked as sponsored, no exceptions. You should know within three seconds whether you're reading editorial or commercial.

Partners don't buy verdicts. A commercial relationship gets an operator a label, not a recommendation. Partner venues are held to the same earns-its-place standard as everything else, and a partner that stops earning its place loses it.

Corrections

When we get it wrong.

Hours change, kitchens close, chefs move on. When a page is wrong, we want to know. Write to corrections@peninsulainsider.com.au and we fix fast. Material corrections are noted on the page they correct.

If a concern is about fairness rather than fact, the complaints process sets out how it's handled.
