Red Hill Brewery is the oldest serious craft brewery on the Peninsula and still one of the few in Australia that grows its own hops. That detail matters: the farm-to-glass story here is not marketing, it is infrastructure. Dave and Karen Golding planted the hop garden in 2005 and have been making Belgian-style ales from it ever since, witbier, dubbel, tripel, and the seasonal fresh-hop beers that are worth waiting for.
The cellar door is a low barn at the top of a vineyard track, with picnic tables, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a tasting flight that doubles as a civilised lunch. Bring the dog. Bring walking shoes for the hop garden loop afterwards. The Belgian range is unusual enough in the Peninsula context to reward attention, most cellar doors on the ridge pour the same continental lager styles.
A proper alternative to a winery lunch if your group includes someone who actively dislikes Pinot Noir.
