What to Do in Red Hill This Weekend: The Saturday Plan
8 April 2026
A market morning, one properly chosen cellar door, and a lunch that earns the drive. The clearest version of a Red Hill Saturday.
Biodynamic Red Hill estate with an all-day deck, sunny long lunches, and a sparkling program that holds its own against anything French.

Foxeys is one of the Peninsula's most consistently pleasant cellar doors, sunny, unpretentious, and serious about the wine without making you work for it. The estate is biodynamic-certified, the architect-designed winery sits on a handsome Red Hill slope, and winemaker Chris Strickland was a 2023 Young Gun of Wine finalist, which tells you everything you need to know about the direction the place is heading.
What sets Foxeys apart from the bigger Red Hill estates is how it handles a weekend crowd. The deck is generous, the all-day menu is better than it needs to be, and the wines, especially the biodynamic sparkling, which is genuinely cult on Peninsula wine lists, come in without theatre. Walk-in is welcome; the sister site Morning Sun is a few minutes' drive if you want a quieter, more Italian-feeling counterpart on a tumbling valley slope.
Order the sparkling flight. Stay for a long lunch. Bring a hat.
Worth knowing
If you only do one thing
Order the sparkling flight before committing to a full bottle, it is the best way to understand what the biodynamic program has been building.
