Main Street Mornington Festival 2026
Cancelled: the 2026 Main Street Mornington Festival will not go ahead. Northern Mornington Peninsula Tourism announced on 11 August 2026 that it could not secure the funding needed to run the event. No date has been confirmed for 2027.
Northern Mornington Peninsula Tourism cancelled the 2026 festival on 11 August 2026. The organisers said that despite their best efforts, they had not been able to secure the level of funding needed to make the event financially viable.
This is the second year running. The 2025 edition was called off for the same reason. Organiser Christina Nolan pointed to rising costs and a shortage of private sponsorship, and singled out traffic management as a large fixed cost the festival has to cover before anything else happens. She argued that events like this one need certainty and continuity of funding rather than a scramble each year.
Mornington Peninsula Shire said it has sponsored the festival every year since 2022, and that the organisers chose not to proceed because of rising costs and the shortage of private sponsorship. The figures each side put forward are in the Mornington Peninsula News report linked above.
The organisers said they will continue to review opportunities for the future and will provide further updates as they become available. They have not committed to 2027. Treat any third-Sunday-in-October date you see elsewhere as a projection from the old pattern, not a confirmed event.
Main Street itself is unaffected. The shops, the galleries and the walk down to the pier are unchanged.
