Bistro Elba

A beachy, artfully dilapidated French bistro on Ocean Beach Road, twice-baked soufflé, ocean-trout gravlax, and a wine list built on small emerging French producers.

Why we’d go

Sorrento has many restaurants that try to feel like a destination. Bistro Elba is the one that actually feels like somewhere.

Bistro Elba is the Sorrento room that makes you feel like you have found the real version of the village. The space is deliberately low-key, timber floors worn soft, candlelight, a short menu chalked up each day, and the cooking is classic French bistro done with enough restraint to feel entirely of its place. Twice-baked cheese soufflé, gin-cured ocean trout with cucumber and dill, whole flounder, duck leg slow-cooked properly. Nothing on the plate is trying to be clever.

The wine list is the other reason to come. It leans into small, emerging French producers, natural-adjacent, cleanly made, and priced so you are not punished for ordering a second bottle, and the team knows every label well enough to hand you something you have never heard of and trust you will love it.

Book for dinner on a Friday in autumn. Sit at the bar if the dining room is full. Order the soufflé twice. It is that kind of place.

A Winter Peninsula Weekend: The Case for Coming in July

13 April 2026

Short days, cheap rooms, empty dining rooms, a fire in every cellar door with a hearth, and a coast that looks like a different country in a southerly. Winter is the Peninsula's most underrated season and the one that gives the region back to the people who actually live here.
