The solstice has passed and the Peninsula has returned to its winter rhythm. This is the weekend for locals, for slow starts, and for the kind of bookings that do not require a crowd strategy. Saturday opens with two Peninsula market mornings. Sunday closes with the final Hot Springs Sunday Session of the season.

The Saturday morning move

Tootgarook Market, Tootgarook Primary School Saturday 27 June, 7:30am to 12:30pm. Free entry.

The fourth-Saturday market at Tootgarook Primary School is a proper community morning: around 250 stalls, produce, plants, craft, and local makers. It is less polished than the bigger Peninsula markets, which is the point. Arrive before 9am for the best produce, stay for a coffee, then walk the few blocks to Tootgarook Beach before the wind picks up.

If you are coming from the south, combine it with breakfast in Rye. If you are driving from Melbourne, it is an easy first stop before heading inland to the truffle farms.

The slower companion move

Peninsula Hot Springs Sunday Sessions (final session), Rye Sunday 28 June, 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Included with afternoon bathing session.

The 2026 Sunday Sessions run finishes this weekend. Live acoustic music from the amphitheatre pool stage, included with the bathing session. The post-solstice Sunday formula is the same: warm water, live music, and an afternoon that justifies the drive home. Book the afternoon bathing session in advance. Sunday is the springs’ busiest day, and the final session draws extra numbers.

The local edge

Red Hill Truffles winter hunt, Main Ridge Saturday 27 or Sunday 28 June. Booking required.

Périgord black season is still at peak. The solstice weekend has passed, so Saturday and Sunday slots are more available than they were a week ago. Sunday morning is the quietest hunt of the week: frosty forest, working dogs, and the hunt done before the lunch crowd arrives. Hunts run as a pizza hunt or a lunch bundle; current prices are on the operator’s site.

Flinders Truffles winter hunt, Flinders Saturday 27 or Sunday 28 June. Booking required for hunts; farmgate days run without booking.

The Flinders farm is the quieter alternative to Main Ridge. Hunts run through winter, then warm up with truffle soup and a toastie by the fire. If the hunt is full, the farmgate days still let you buy fresh truffles to take home. Dates and bookings drop on their website and social channels, so check directly before driving.

  • Tootgarook Market is an outdoor school-grounds market. Bring cash for small stalls and a jacket for the morning cold.
  • Peninsula Hot Springs Sunday Sessions end on 28 June. After that, the regular bathing experience continues but the live music pauses.
  • Truffle hunts run in light rain. Wear closed boots, warm layers, and a raincoat. The forest is colder than the coast.
