Two nights in Sorrento built around a family snorkel tour at Portsea, a return ferry crossing between Sorrento and Queenscliff, and optional wildlife encounters at Moonlit Sanctuary. The experiences are chosen for how they land with children aged 4 to 14, not for how they photograph for adults.
Most Peninsula weekend guides are written for adults who happen to mention that children might also come. This package is built the other way around. The Searoad Ferries crossing is the structural centrepiece: for most children, a 40-minute roll-on/roll-off crossing between Sorrento and Queenscliff is an event, not a transit experience. A return crossing gives a Saturday with a genuine story to it - the family went somewhere, arrived somewhere else, and came back by boat. The Bayplay snorkel tour at Portsea keeps the same coastal logic: an experience genuinely surprising to most adults and completely captivating to children aged 6 to 12, conducted from the pier without any boat transit risk for families with young children. The anchor accommodation in Sorrento is the functional choice: walking distance to the ferry terminal and the foreshore means no car logistics with tired children at the end of each day.

Book this tour →Book family accommodation near Sorrento pier first - school holiday windows book out 6 to 8 weeks ahead, and properties with proximity to the pier and beach are limited in supply. Book the snorkel tour second, as Saturday morning sessions are the most popular timeslot. Book the ferry crossing at the same time, confirming the departure schedule aligns with the post-snorkel window.
No. The minimum age for the Bayplay snorkel with sea dragons tour is 6. Children under 6 can participate in the ferry crossing, the wildlife park, and the beach activities. A viable substitute for very young children is the Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola: no minimum age, 30-minute return trip, and panoramic bay views.
Searoad Ferries operates year-round with high operational reliability, but storm conditions can cause delays or cancellations. Tickets are flexible and transferable. If the ferry is cancelled, the Queenscliff component of the Saturday falls away and the day restructures around the snorkel tour and beach time.
