A lot of venues say they are dog-friendly when what they really mean is that they will tolerate a dog if you stay outside and do not inconvenience anyone. That is not the same as a venue that genuinely works when the dog is part of the plan.

What follows is the verified short list - venues with confirmed outdoor dog access, sourced from their own websites and booking systems where possible. Policies change; always call ahead before a long trip.

Cafés

Commonfolk Coffee - Mornington

Back courtyard. Confirmed dog-friendly. One of the Peninsula’s most serious specialty roasters. 16 Progress Street, Mornington. Weekdays 6:30am–5pm; weekends 8am–5pm. Booking required.

Nordie Café - Red Hill

Dog-friendly courtyard and grass area. Scandinavian design, rösti benedict, smoked salmon smørrebrød. 1008 Mornington-Flinders Road, Red Hill. Morning hours only - check before visiting.

Green Olive at Red Hill - Red Hill South

Outdoor dining areas confirmed dog-friendly. Farm cooking focus, local olive oil and produce. 37 Shoreham Road, Red Hill South. Open daily in peak season (verify off-peak).

Somers General - Somers

Quieter general store café at the southern end of Somers. Outdoor tables. Good for a reset stop after a morning at Somers Beach.

Pubs

Flinders Hotel - Flinders

Beer garden welcomes dogs. Lunch and dinner daily 11am–10pm. Food is a cut above most Peninsula pubs. 23 Cook Street, Flinders. Walking distance to Flinders village and coastal foreshore.

Portsea Hotel - Portsea

Beer garden dog-friendly. Sweeping Port Phillip Bay views. Walk-in only 23 December to 31 January; bookings accepted rest of year. 3746 Point Nepean Road, Portsea. Good stop before or after Point Nepean National Park (note: dogs not permitted in the park itself).

Balnarring Pub - Balnarring

Outdoor beer garden dog-welcome. Local, low-key atmosphere. Practical mid-Peninsula stop.

The Rocks - Mornington

Outdoor deck. Confirmed dog-friendly. Waterfront marina setting with bay views. 1 Schnapper Point Drive, Mornington. Wednesday to Monday (Tuesday lunch only).

Many Little Bar & Dining - Red Hill South

Outdoor seating, enquire on booking. One-hat GFG 2025. Thursday to Sunday evenings plus weekend lunches. 2–5/159 Shoreham Road, Red Hill South.

Rare Hare - Merricks North (Jackalope Hotel)

Outdoor lawn areas dog-friendly. Walk-in only - no reservations. One-hat GFG 2025. Monday to Friday from 5pm; Saturday and Sunday from 2pm. 166 Balnarring Road, Merricks North.

Red Hill Brewery - Red Hill South

Large outdoor grass area with tables, wood-fired pizza oven. The most reliably dog-friendly winery-adjacent experience on the Peninsula - dogs are the expected mode, not an exception.

St Andrews Beach Brewery - St Andrews Beach

Converted horse stable with large grassed outdoor area. Good space for active dogs that need room.

Confirmed no-dogs venues

Foxeys Hangout (Red Hill) - “Please leave your lovely dogs at home.” Stated on their website.

Quealy Winemakers (Balnarring) - “We kindly ask no dogs.” Stated on their cellar door page.

The practical rule

Assume outdoor only, on-leash, and subject to current venue policy. A smart owner calls ahead before treating any wine stop or lunch booking as guaranteed with the dog. Policies can change seasonally and are often not updated on websites in real time.
