## EAT - Lindenderry at Red Hill, dining room in spring

The wisteria on Lindenderry’s pergola peaks in October, and the kitchen is running its spring menu across a 34-acre estate that looks better right now than at almost any other point in the year. The dining room draws from the estate’s own kitchen garden, and the current menu leans into that: expect grilled asparagus with cultured butter and a hazelnut crumb, and whatever the garden is throwing at the kitchen this week. The wine list pulls heavily from the Red Hill plateau, with Lindenderry’s own estate Pinot Gris and a short list of neighbouring producers to work through. This is not a rushed lunch - build in time to walk the garden after. Tables on the terrace are limited and go fast on spring weekends. Book directly through the Lancemore Group website; bookings are essential for Saturday and Sunday service.

**Lindenderry at Red Hill** - Arthurs Seat Road, Red Hill. Check the website for current service times. Pair with a walk through the estate gardens before your reservation.

## EXPERIENCE - Boneo Plains grassland loop, spider orchids in flower

The spider orchids at Boneo Plains Conservation Reserve flower for a narrow window in mid-to-late October, and this week is close to the peak. The reserve protects a remnant lowland grassland between Rosebud and Cape Schanck - genuinely rare habitat on the Peninsula - and the October show includes Caladenia species and nodding greenhoods in the grassy understorey. Stick to the marked loop track to protect ground orchids, which are easy to miss and easy to crush. Carry water; there is no facility on site. Morning light is better for orchid photography, and the track is exposed and flat, so get there before midday heat builds. The loop runs approximately 4–5 km and takes around 90 minutes. Access via Boneo Road; check Parks Victoria for current conditions before you leave. No booking required.

Pair a morning here with lunch at Quarters at Flinders Hotel, 20 minutes south along the ocean coast.

## DISCOVERY - Emu Plains Market, Balnarring, Saturday

The Emu Plains Market at Balnarring Reserve runs every Saturday through to 19 December 2026, and October is the right time to be there: spring produce from the back-country farms between Merricks and Balnarring starts filling the stalls in earnest this month. Growers from the Red Hill plateau and Westernport hinterland bring direct - small volumes of cut flowers, early-season strawberries, sourdough, farmhouse preserves, and a rotating cast of smallholder producers that shifts week to week. The market runs 9 am to 2 pm; arrive before 11 am if you want first pick of the cut flowers and anything limited. Emu Plains Reserve is on Frankston-Flinders Road in Balnarring. No booking required. The format is relaxed and genuinely local - not scaled for tourist crowds, which is exactly the point.

Pair a Saturday morning here with a walk along the Balnarring Beach foreshore track before the market closes at 2 pm.
