**Main Ridge Dairy** is the Peninsula’s most direct farm-to-table stop, and spring is the right time to visit. The does are at peak milk production after kidding, which means the fresh chèvre and the goat-milk gelato are both in their best condition right now.

Order the cheese board first. The range runs from young fresh rounds through to aged and ash-coated styles, and the staff will walk you through what is ready. Finish with a scoop of goat-milk gelato - it is lighter and sharper than cow-milk versions, and it works well alongside a salty aged cheese on the same visit.

The dairy is a working farm, not a restaurant. Allow an hour. Kids understand the whole operation in under a minute because the animals are visible from the tasting area.

Main Ridge Dairy, Browns Road, Main Ridge. Check the website for current opening days before you drive out.

Pair this with a bottle from Main Ridge Estate, which is minutes away on the same ridge road.

The **Bloodroot Track** above Merricks North is at its most worthwhile right now. Spring brings out the native orchids - particularly the spider orchids and sun orchids that appear along the drier sections of the track between late September and late October. Miss this window and you wait another year.

The track runs through dry sclerophyll and heath, picking up the ridge above Merricks General Wine Store. The ground-level orchids need slow walking to find; resist the urge to power through. Conditions in mid-October are typically good - warm enough for the orchids to be open by mid-morning, cool enough that the walk does not feel like an effort.

Allow two hours for a relaxed return walk from the Merricks North end. Wear closed shoes; the track is rocky in sections. No booking required.

The Bloodroot Track connects naturally with a stop at Merricks General Wine Store for a glass after - the cellar door is worth the detour on its own.

**British Comedy Trivia at The Pig & Whistle** runs this Thursday 22 October, 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The Pig & Whistle is a proper country pub on Mornington-Flinders Road in Main Ridge - low ceilings, open fire if the night turns cold, and a kitchen that keeps going through the evening.

The format is theme trivia built around British comedy - think Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, The Office, and deeper cuts for teams that want to push for the top. It runs over three rounds with a break in the middle. Pub trivia at a country venue this size tends to sell out a few days ahead, so booking now is the right move.

Tables seat up to six. Book via the Humanitix link - events.humanitix.com/trivia-night-british-comedy. Doors from 6:00 pm, first question shortly after.

If you are making a night of it, the Main Ridge Dairy is a ten-minute drive for an afternoon cheese stop before heading to the pub.
