# Kooyong's single-block spring flight, Baldry's Creek wildflowers, and the Pig & Whistle's British Comedy Trivia

Kooyong's named-block Pinot tasting in Red Hill South, the Balnarring wildflower loop at Baldry's Creek Reserve, and a Main Ridge pub quiz built around Blackadder and Fawlty Towers on Thursday night.

**WINE - Kooyong, Red Hill South**

Kooyong’s named single-block tasting is worth doing every spring when new vintage releases sit alongside older library bottles. This season the Haven, Meres, Ferrous, and Faultline Pinot Noirs are all available to taste side by side - four wines from adjacent slopes that actually smell and taste different from each other. That adjacency is the whole point. Spring is the right moment: cellar door staff have been through vintage, the wines are freshly in bottle, and the conversation about what happened in the vineyard is still current. Book the structured single-vineyard flight rather than dropping in. The walk-in experience does not replicate what happens when the glasses are lined up in front of you together. Allow two hours minimum. Kooyong is at 175 Hunts Road, Red Hill South; book through kooyong.com.

Pair with lunch at La Baracca at T’Gallant, ten minutes north on Mornington-Flinders Road.

**WALK - Baldry’s Creek Reserve, Balnarring**

October is the window for Baldry’s Creek Reserve and most locals who don’t live in Balnarring don’t know it exists. The loop track off Browns Road runs through a coastal scrub corridor where spider orchids and wattles are flowering right now, and the understorey is low enough that you can actually see them without crouching. The track is ungraded in the best sense - no boardwalk, no interpretive signage every fifty metres, just a worn path through ti-tree and banksias. The full loop takes around ninety minutes at a reasonable pace. Go before noon; the afternoon nor’westerly comes in fast in spring and strips the fragrance out of the scrub entirely. Free entry, no booking. Park on Browns Road, Balnarring, opposite the reserve gate.

Pair with a post-walk flat white and a pastry at Balnarring Bakehouse, five minutes back toward the township.

**DISCOVERY - British Comedy Trivia, The Pig & Whistle, Main Ridge**

The Pig & Whistle Tavern in Main Ridge is running a British Comedy Trivia night on Thursday 22 October, 6 pm to 9:30 pm, and the category framing is specific enough to be genuinely useful intelligence before you commit. The rounds are built around Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, and their contemporaries - not a broad pop-culture quiz with a British round bolted on. Main Ridge locals treat this pub as their actual local rather than a destination stop, which changes the atmosphere in a room immediately. Teams fill the bar from 5:30 pm, so arrive early if you want a table with sightlines. Book through Humanitix at events.humanitix.com/trivia-night-british-comedy; bookings are essential. The Pig & Whistle is on Main Creek Road, Main Ridge.

Pair with a tasting at Lightfoot Wines on the same road earlier in the afternoon, then walk back for dinner before trivia.
