## EAT - Georgie Bass Cafe & Cookery, Flinders

Georgie Bass stops being a good idea and starts being the obvious call once the weather settles into October. The kitchen runs its own-farm produce through an all-day breakfast menu served until 3pm, and spring is when the seasonal vegetable plate actually earns that description - new-season greens pulled from the property that morning.

The egg dishes are the anchor. Whatever combination the kitchen is running this week, order it with the vegetable side and Commonfolk coffee. The cookery school runs off to one side, the courtyard tables face the garden, and the pace is deliberate without feeling slow. It is the kind of place you arrive at after a walk and end up staying an hour past when you intended.

Cook Street, Flinders. Budget 60–90 minutes. Book ahead for weekend tables - the courtyard fills by 10am on fine spring mornings. Check the website for current hours.

Pair a Georgie Bass visit with a walk down to Flinders cliff track beforehand, or swing through Flinders Sourdough on the way out of the village.

## EXPERIENCE - Olivers Hill Clifftop Loop, Frankston South

The Olivers Hill track runs along the Port Phillip Bay escarpment and in October the wattles are done and the coastal tea-tree is just starting, which makes this a cleaner walk than it is in August or December. The clifftop section opens up wide views across to the You Yangs on a clear morning, and the scrub between Olivers Hill and Daveys Bay is close enough to the city to be underestimated.

This is the walk that rewards arriving early. By 8am on a Saturday the car park is quiet, the light is low from the north-east, and the track itself is dry enough after a run of spring mornings that the clay sections aren’t slippery. The loop back via the foreshore trail adds about twenty minutes and keeps you off the escarpment path for the return leg, which is the better option.

Start from the Olivers Hill car park, Dunns Road, Frankston South. The clifftop loop to Daveys Bay and back is approximately 5–6 km, 90 minutes. No booking. Dogs on lead permitted on the foreshore section.

Combine with a stop at Small Stone Pantry in Dromana on the drive home - a grain bowl and a raid of the Peninsula producer shelf makes a complete morning.

## DISCOVERY - Commonfolk Coffee’s Filter Bar, Before the Crowd

Most people who know Commonfolk Coffee on Tanti Avenue in Mornington know the warehouse space, the egg sandwich, and the in-house roastery. Fewer treat the single-origin filter bar as the reason to arrive specifically before 9am on a weekend. It should be.

The filter rotation changes when the roastery decides, not on a posted schedule, which means the bar is worth asking about rather than assuming. The baristas running that station on a Saturday morning are roastery staff who chose to be there, and the difference in how they talk about what’s in the hopper is apparent. This is not a upsell - it’s a separate ritual from the espresso queue, and it has its own pace. Arrive after 10am and you’re in the full weekend crowd, which is fine, but the filter bar experience is quieter before that.

Tanti Avenue, Mornington. Open early seven days. Arrive before 9am for the filter bar at its best. No booking needed.

Pair with the National Works on Paper exhibition at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, open until 22 November 2026 - it’s fifteen minutes away and the two make a complete, low-key Saturday morning.
