## EAT - The Red Hill Baker, Balnarring

The Red Hill Baker now operates only in Balnarring. The bakery’s own website confirms that its former Red Hill location has closed and lists the Balnarring shop as its sole location. It remains a useful early stop for bread, pies and pastries, but it is not a Red Hill village stop and should not be planned as one.

**1/3000 Frankston-Flinders Road, Balnarring. Open daily, 6am-4pm. No booking required.**

Pair a Saturday bakery stop with a walk through the Red Hill Conservation Reserve, ten minutes from the car park.

## EXPERIENCE - Greens Bush Orchid Flush, Mornington Peninsula National Park

The Greens Bush section of Mornington Peninsula National Park is the Peninsula’s best wildflower walk, and late September is the week you want to be on the track. Spider orchids - Caladenia species - appear in the heath understorey along the circuits, typically from mid-September and peaking through the first week of October. They are small and easy to miss if you are walking fast, so don’t walk fast. The Baldrys Short Circuit is 1.6 km and the Long Circuit is 3.6 km, both departing from Baldry’s Crossing on Baldrys Road. Give the longer circuit at least ninety minutes. Stick to the track edges - the root systems here are shallow and the plants do not recover from foot traffic.

**Baldry’s Crossing, Baldrys Road, Main Ridge. Free entry. No booking required. Allow 90 minutes for the long circuit and check Parks Victoria for temporary track conditions.**

Combine with a stop at Flinders General Store on the way back through the village - twenty minutes south.

## DISCOVERY - Hill & Ridge Community Market, Red Hill

The Hill & Ridge Community Market runs this Saturday, 3 October, 9am to 2pm at Red Hill Recreation Reserve. It draws a tighter producer and maker mix than the larger Peninsula markets - fewer imported goods, more local smallholders - and Red Hill in spring is genuinely good timing, when the hinterland’s early-season vegetables start appearing on the stalls. The Recreation Reserve sits behind the Red Hill township, with the ranges visible to the north and the paddocks open on three sides. Go between nine and eleven before the Saturday lunch crowd arrives from Balnarring. Check hillandridgemarket.com.au for the current stall list before you go - it changes each month. Entry is free. There is no designated parking, but the roadside along the reserve fills slowly if you arrive before ten.

**Red Hill Recreation Reserve, Red Hill. Saturday 3 October 2026, 9am–2pm. Free entry. No booking required.**

The bakery is in Balnarring, not Red Hill. For a Red Hill stop, use a currently operating local cafe and verify its hours before travelling.
