**EAT / DRINK - St Andrews Beach Brewery, Rye**

The Sunday roast at St Andrews Beach Brewery is the format that makes the most sense of this place. Former racehorse stables converted into a working brewery, with open lawns rolling toward the old exercise track and a kitchen that treats the roast as a real project, not a pub afterthought.

Spring is when the lawn tables become the point. The grass is back, the afternoon light sits low over the paddock, and a slow Sunday here with a red ale and whatever the roast is running - beef or lamb depending on the week - is the specific version of a good Peninsula weekend. The core pale ale and lager are consistent enough to drink through the whole afternoon without adjustment. The session sour is worth one.

Book a lawn table in advance via the website; walk-ins on Sundays in spring are unlikely to get the spot you want. Allow three hours minimum.

Pair the afternoon with a walk around the Rye foreshore before or after - twenty minutes each way along the beach, no effort required.

**EXPERIENCE / WALK - Greens Bush Loop, Mornington Peninsula National Park**

Greens Bush is the largest area of remnant bushland on the Peninsula, and the 6.5-kilometre main loop is at its best right now. The understorey is pushing new growth, the silver wattles are finishing their run, and the honeyeaters - eastern spinebills and New Holland honeyeaters in particular - are audible before you are fifty metres into the track.

The loop runs through a mix of open heathland and messmate stringybark forest. It is flat enough not to require preparation but long enough to feel like a proper morning. The Banksia menziesii sections near the midpoint are the reason to do this in September rather than any other month: the new flower spikes are just opening.

Start from the Boneo Road car park, turn left at the first junction onto the Blue Trail, and keep the loop counter-clockwise for the best light in the morning. Allow two to three hours. No booking required.

Pair it with a late breakfast at Two Bays Brewing in Dromana on the way back - twenty minutes north on the freeway.

**DISCOVERY - Red Hill Truffles Hunt, Main Ridge**

The Red Hill Truffles hunt season closes on 30 September 2026. There are three weekends left. This is a specific thing worth doing before the window shuts, not a general recommendation to think about sometime.

The hunts run with trained dogs working through the truffle orchard at Main Ridge. You walk with the dog handler, watch the dog indicate, and dig the truffle out yourself. The guide explains maturity, fragrance, and grade on the spot. It is not theatrical - the dogs are working, the orchard smells like soil and rain, and the whole experience takes about ninety minutes on the ground.

What makes September the right time rather than July or August is the late-season truffles: slightly smaller, more intensely perfumed, and closer to the end of their viable window. The quality argument for going now is real.

Book directly at redhilltruffles.com/hunts; weekend sessions are filling with three weeks remaining. The property is in Main Ridge.

Pair the morning with lunch at a Red Hill cellar door - Merricks General Wine Store is fifteen minutes down Merricks Road.
