## Eat: Moke Dining, Flinders

Saturday lunch at Moke is the clearest argument for driving to the southern end of the Peninsula. Michael Cole placed fourteenth at Bocuse d’Or, and the five-course set menu in his 20-seat Cook Street room reflects someone who has cooked at that level and chosen to do something quieter with it. The menu changes weekly, which in September means whatever the farms around Flinders and Cape Schanck are handing over right now - expect brassicas, early-season greens, and whatever the fishers came back with. The room is small enough that nothing feels accidental. Spring is the right time because the cliff path to West Head is in good condition and the walk before lunch earns the meal properly. Allow three to three-and-a-half hours for the full experience, walk first. Book ahead - Saturday sittings disappear quickly and there is no walk-in option here.

**Pair with:** Walk the West Head cliff track before your reservation, then let lunch account for the morning.

## Walk: Arthurs Seat Wildflower Corridor, Seawinds Garden

The Seawinds Garden trails at Arthurs Seat State Park hit their September window this week. The native orchid display along the lower loop track is currently as good as it gets - spider orchids, sun orchids, and donkey orchids are all up together, which only lines up for roughly three weeks. The track surface is firm after a dry August. Go before 11am: the orchids close in direct heat and the morning light through the stringybark canopy along the ridge section is worth having. The full Seawinds loop runs about 4.5 kilometres and takes 60 to 90 minutes at an easy pace. The upper lookout at the Eagle sits above the treeline with a clear bay view that is better in spring clarity than at any other time of year. No booking, free entry to the state park.

**Pair with:** Stop at Crittenden Restaurant in Dromana for lunch on the way back down - it’s ten minutes from the base of the hill.

## Discovery: National Works on Paper 2026, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery

The National Works on Paper exhibition opened at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery yesterday and runs through to 22 November. NWOP is one of the few national acquisition prizes based entirely on works on paper - drawing, printmaking, collage, gouache, works that don’t translate to a screen the way paintings might. The gallery’s Dunns Road space suits it well: the rooms are quiet, the natural light is handled carefully, and the Mornington crowd on a Saturday morning tends to move slowly through it rather than tick it off. This is not a regional show that happens to carry national branding. The prize money is real and the acquisitions go into the collection. Worth two hours if you read the wall text; ninety minutes if you don’t. Free entry, open daily 11am–4pm through to November 22.

**Pair with:** Mr Vincenzo’s on Mornington’s main street is fifteen minutes away and a reasonable place to be after spending time in a quiet gallery.
