Insider Picks Winter

## The Thursday reset: Hastings Street Market

Hastings does not wait for a Saturday crowd. Its weekly street market lands on High Street every Thursday morning, and that is precisely why it works. The pace is local: produce, plants, homemade goods and craft stalls, with Western Port still close enough to make a foreshore walk the natural second act.

Go early enough to make a morning of it rather than treating it as an errand. This is not a polished destination market and it does not need to be. It is a practical, unhurried reason to be on the Western Port side of the Peninsula when the rest of the weekend is already starting to fill up.

**Hastings Thursday Street Market** - High Street, Hastings. Thursday, 9am to 1pm. Outdoor and weather dependent.

## Friday, properly timed: Trofeo Estate

Trofeo Estate’s winter aperitivo session is the useful kind of Friday plan: it begins at 4pm, inside the estate’s historic chapel and winery, and leaves the evening open. The listed run continues each Friday through 28 August, so this is the moment to use it rather than saving it for a winter weekend that never quite materialises.

The draw is the setting as much as the glass. Main Ridge is at its best when the temperature drops and the roads are quieter; arrive without trying to turn it into a full-day itinerary. If the weather holds, take the long route through Red Hill on the way home. If it does not, stay in the chapel and let the plan be small.

**Aperitivo Hour at Trofeo Estate** - 1 Tucks Road, Main Ridge. Friday, 4pm to 6pm through 28 August. Check Trofeo Estate before travelling.

## The winter double bill: MPRG

Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery has two exhibitions worth seeing in the same visit, both listed through 23 August. Helen Britton: The Story So Far brings painting, installation, jewellery, drawing and photography from the Australian Design Centre’s Living Treasures program. Alongside it, Natalia Milosz-Piekarska: Sifted Light turns Peninsula land and sea into sculptural and wearable jewellery.

The pairing gives the visit more shape than a quick gallery lap. Start with Britton’s retrospective, then let the smaller, coast-connected work in Sifted Light slow the pace down. It is a strong rainy-weekend plan with Mornington Main Street and the foreshore nearby afterwards.

**MPRG winter exhibitions** - Civic Reserve, Dunns Road, Mornington. Listed through 23 August. Check the gallery for current opening hours.
