Most Sorrento weekends are built around the summer version of the town - crowded, bright, too warm to walk far. This plan inverts that. It assumes you are here in April, May, June, September, or October, and it treats the village as the base rather than a stop. Two nights is enough. Three is ideal.

## Day 1 Settle into Sorrento

- Afternoon

### [InterContinental Sorrento](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/stay/the-continental-sorrento/>)

Check in at your confirmed hotel time, then walk the village. The Continental precinct has separate bars and dining for a pre-dinner stop.

- Afternoon

### [Sorrento Ocean Baths](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/sorrento-ocean-baths/>)

Head to Sorrento Back Beach for the short lookout circuit from the lifesaving club. Go while there is daylight, and check conditions before approaching the shore.

- Evening

### [Hotel Sorrento](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/stay/hotel-sorrento/>)

Book the Dining Room at Hotel Sorrento for a walkable village dinner. Confirm the reservation for your date.

Night 1 · Where you sleep

Stay at InterContinental Sorrento tonight. Confirm check-in and dinner for your date before you travel.

## Day 2 Back beach and Point Nepean

- Morning

### [Sorrento Back Beach](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/sorrento-back-beach/>)

Early - before nine. Morning light on the basalt reefs is the photograph people keep trying to take. Walk end to end.

- Morning

### [Stringers Sorrento](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/eat/stringers-sorrento/>)

Breakfast after the walk. Coffee and something from the counter, a few minutes in the village sun.

- Afternoon

### [Point Nepean Fort Walk](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/point-nepean-fort-walk/>)

Leave the afternoon for Point Nepean. Check current park access and the shuttle timetable if you plan to use it, then choose a walking distance that suits the group.

- Evening

### [Pt. Leo Estate](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/wine/pt-leo-estate/>)

Book Pt. Leo Restaurant for Friday or Saturday dinner if its service suits your second night. Allow for the return drive to Sorrento. The Sculpture Park needs a separate daytime ticket and visit; do not plan it around this dinner.

Night 2 · Where you sleep

Return to InterContinental Sorrento for your next night. Confirm dinner separately for your date.

## Day 3 One last coastal walk

- Morning

### [Coppins Track](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/coppins-track/>)

A final clifftop and heath walk above the back coast. Choose a section that suits your group; the track has uneven ground and stairs.

## Booking checklist

- essential Two nights at InterContinental Sorrento; book precinct dining separately

- recommended Hotel Sorrento dinner and Pt. Leo Restaurant Friday or Saturday dinner service

- recommended Check Point Nepean access and shuttle timetable if using it

### [Sorrento Ocean Baths](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/sorrento-ocean-baths/>)

Treat the rock pools at Sorrento Back Beach as a coastal walk and viewing stop. Go at low tide in calm conditions, use the marked access and stay back from the water when the swell is active. Parks Victoria warns that Sorrento Back Beach has unpredictable rips, currents and large waves. If you swim at the beach, swim only between the flags when it is patrolled and stay within your limits. Outside patrol times, keep this as a walk and a look at the coastline. The lookout and short coastal paths give you a quieter way to visit. Check current conditions and local signs before you go.

### [Sorrento Back Beach](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/sorrento-back-beach/>)

The back beach is where Sorrento stops performing and starts feeling elemental. The surf side has more force, more wind, and far better dusk light than the bay, which is why locals drift here late in the day even when they have spent the morning elsewhere. Swim only when conditions suit and the flags are up, but walk it in any season. The stretch from the car park toward Diamond Bay is one of the easiest ways to understand why the southern tip of the Peninsula feels like a different region entirely.

[Attraction](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/point-nepean-fort-walk/>)

[Point Nepean](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/places/point-nepean/>)

### [Point Nepean Fort Walk](<https://peninsulainsider.com.au/explore/point-nepean-fort-walk/>)

Point Nepean rewards people who are happy to walk a little further than the average Peninsula day-tripper. The road and paths out toward Fort Nepean unfold through old quarantine buildings, scrub, and cliff-edge lookouts before the whole place gives way to bunkers and artillery emplacements looking straight across the Heads. It is a history lesson, a coastline walk, and a very good excuse to leave Sorrento for the afternoon. Hire bikes if you want to cover more ground, but walking keeps the mood right. Choose your starting point and route before estimating the time needed, including the return journey. This listing does not define one fixed circuit. Fort paths and interiors include steps and uneven surfaces; do not assume that every section is accessible. Check Parks Victoria's current conditions before visiting, as individual tracks, beach access points and fort interiors can be restricted. Notices checked on 1 October 2026 reported a closed section of the Engine House walking track and no entry inside the Engine House; access to its exterior was via stairs from the Parade Ground. The Bend beach access steps and track were also closed, with Bay Beach Walk visitors continuing to Fort Nepean directed onto Coles Track at Observatory Point. These are restrictions on specific sections, not a whole-park closure. Follow the latest official advice and on-site signs.

Short days, cheap rooms, empty dining rooms, a fire in every cellar door with a hearth, and a coast that looks like a different country in a southerly. Winter is the Peninsula's most underrated season and the one that gives the region back to the people who actually live here.

The long lunches get the headlines. But the Peninsula's first hour of the day - the flat white, the croissant out of the oven, the eggs on a working bakery's sourdough - is the quieter, better-value half of the food story. Here is where locals go, and the order to do it in.
